Several friends and I have wondered about the possibility of building a truck out of the scrap lumber in my back yard. After receiving ruthless criticism for the idea, we decided not to attempt it. You give us new inspiration! Thanks. BTW, the website looks awesome. One question as well... Have you considered the safety issues with having the driver's legs between the front suspension components? In the (hopefully) unlikely event of a crash, if the front end broke, the last place I would want my legs is between the a-arms. I'm not challenging your thinking, just making sure you are aware of the possible hazards present.
Admin reply: Michael,
Thanks for your comments. We are definitely aware of the possible safety hazards of occupant legs between the A-arms. We plan on heavily boxing-in this section, yet we still hope the car is never wrecked. Lots of luck with the truck, just try not to go making it faster than the Splinter.

Joseph,
Super outstanding WebSite. The car looks terrific, too. A cruise to the beach when it hits the road is in order. You are always welcome.
Awesome drive train. When do you plan on lighting the rear ones up?
Admin reply: Hey John,
We plan on debuting it at the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta in August of 2008. Be there or be square. Great to hear from you.

Can you drive it in the rain? What are you doing to the wood to protect it from the elements?
Admin reply: The finish will likely be a 2 component polyurethane with high degrees of moisture, ultraviolet and chemical resistance. That said, we don't plan on pushing the finish to the limits by letting the car get rained on or leaving it in the sun. The car won't even have windshield wipers. Good to hear from you, Jimmy.
